Email marketing service MailChimp announced today in a blog post that the service will now allow customers to create and run Facebook advertisements right within MailChimp itself.
And they couldn’tve made it easier, which, given MailChimp’s target audience of small business owners, is exactly what is needed. MailChimp has merged the back end of Facebook’s advertising functions with the front end of the email marketing provider’s interface to make a user-friendly way for businesses to advertise on the social network.
Target Your Email List With Facebook Ads
With this new feature, MailChimp users can create Facebook ads that target the people who are already on their email list. This screenshot shows the options:

Since Facebook has such a critical mass of people, it can create what are called lookalike audiences, based on what it already knows about the people on your email list. Facebook compares what it knows about the people on your list and finds other’s on the network that are similar to your subscribers.
So you could conceivably create a segment of your best customers on MailChimp and then use that segment to build a lookalike list to target with Facebook ads. Here’s what the screen looks like for building lookalike audiences.
Target Entirely New Facebook Audiences Through MailChimp
Finally, you can target entirely new audiences with Facebook ads using its combination of demographic, geographic and psychographic profiling. Your options aren’t nearly as flexible or sophisticated as as they are directly through the Facebook Advertising interface but the point was to simplify the process for small business people.
Best of all, MailChimp doesn’t even take a cut of your ad budget.
